Research center belonging to the Spanish National Research Council, located in València.
Two departments form IBV. The Department of Genomics and Proteomics develops projects focused on the identification of genetic factors involved in diseases of the nervous system; in solving the three dimensional structure of proteins of biomedical interest involved in metabolic disorders or cancer processes as well as in signaling processes whose characterization can lead to the development of new generation antibiotics; the study of the composition and evolution of the molecules present in ophidic poisons as a way to develop effective anti-venoms; the genetic characterization of populations of Mycobacterium tuberculosis as well as its epidemiology or the study of the microbiome in respiratory diseases and the application of bioinformatic analysis as a method of definition of molecular pathways involved in disease.
For its part, the Department of Molecular and Cellular Pathology and Therapy includes lines of work ranging from the study of diseases of the nervous system to the characterization of signaling processes by nutrients through the study of factors related to cardiovascular disorders system, characterization of signaling pathways that are affected in cancer skin, the study of gene expression in processes of stress and disruption of cellular homeostasis, study and development of processes of cellular reprogramming using spermatogonial cells as a model, characterization the molecular basis of the development of the nervous system or the regulation of stem cells in aging processes.
The IBV has collaborations established, either directly or through the CSIC, with public universities and in the Campus of International Excellence VLC / Campus. Similarly, various groups of the Institute are part of the Centers for Biomedical Network Research on Rare Diseases (Ciberer) in Liver and Digestive Diseases (Ciberehd) and Neurodegenerative Diseases (Ciberned). We are also part of the La Fe Health Research Institute, accredited by the Institute of Health Carlos III. Moreover, there are cooperation agreements with institutions and companies from different fields focused on knowledge generation and application of this knowledge to detect problems that these companies.
